Modern technologies are used by individuals including student nurses across the world for different purposes, such as, to stay up to date with worldwide news; exchange information or ideas and share views; aid in recovery and education; keep in touch with family and friends. This comes with great responsibilities for nurses not only to become confident social media users and incorporate this knowledge into practice for patient and nurses benefits, but also to be aware of organisational policies and legislations in the workplace to avoid consequences on a ââ¬Å"legal, ethical and professionalâ⬠level for improper use of social media (Kientz Kupperschmidt, 2011, p.1). Greed in The Pearl free essay sample
A sudden influx of wealth can, for some, bring joy and prosperity. However, it can also bring out the worst in ones character. People can quickly go from being content with their lives to being overcome with greed and always wanting more. The Pearl by John Steinbeck is a perfect example of how greed can negatively affect people. It is the story of a poor pearl diver, Kino, and his family, living in La Paz in the 1940s. They live in poverty and long for a better life for their son, but they have learned to make the best of their situation. One day, Kino is diving for pearls just as he does every other day, and he finds the Pearl of the World, a pearl as big as a seagulls egg. At first, the finding of this magnificent pearl is a beacon of hope for Kino, who believes that it will drastically improve his life. However, he soon finds that the pearl brings only unhappiness and misery. Greed for money brings out the worst in Kino, as it does with most of the other characters that encounter the pearl throughout the story. Through the actions of the different characters, Steinbeck comments on the dehumanizing effect that greed can have on people, regardless of their status in society. The people who Kino comes in contact with as he sets out to sell the pearl are the first examples of people brought to do immoral things out of greed and jealousy. One of these people destroys Kinos canoe, his most prized possession. The destruction of it is devastating to him; he calls it an evil beyond thinking, commenting that the killing of a man is not so evil as the killing of a boat (62). It is his familys only means of survival, giving Kino and his family access to fish, for food, and pearls, his only source of income. Whoever destroyed the canoe must have known how vital it was to Kino and his family, but they did it regardless. Another example of immoral actions brought on by greed is the reaction of the pearl buyers in the nearby town upon learning that Kino is selling his pearl. They make a living by convincing people to sell them their pearls for meager amounts and then reselling them for much higher prices, which they plan on doing to Kino as well. The pearl buyer that Kino meets offers only one thousand pesos for the pearl, which Kino knows is worth at least fifty times that. Kino refuses this offer; however, if Kino had accepted the low price, the buyer would have had no qualms about cheating Kino and buying the pearl for a fraction of its worth. Toward the end of the story, Kino and his family set off to the capital to sell the pearl, and shortly into theirà journey they discover that they are being followed by trackers from ââ¬Å"the inlandâ⬠. These trackers were hired by someone to steal the pearl, which most likely entails killing Kinoââ¬â¢s family in the process. They are getting paid to complete this job, so they are willing to kill an innocent family without any guilt. All of these people allow their resentment and desire for money to make them act without a second thought to the devastating impact they may have on othersââ¬â¢ lives, showing how dehumanizing the prospect of money can be to people. The townââ¬â¢s doctor is another example of someone who is negatively affected by his greed for the pearl and obsession with money. Though the doctor lives in a large house with every comfort he could desire, it is not enough for him, and ââ¬Å"his mouth droop[s] with discontentâ⬠(11). There is clear foil between Kino, who is happy with his life though he has nothing, and the doctor, who has everything but is not content. At the beginning of the story, Kino wakes up and immediately looks toward his family and the light coming in from the door, while the doctor looks toward a portrait of his dead wife and sits in a ââ¬Å"heavy and dark and gloomyâ⬠room. Here, Steinbeck is commenting on how the possession of money does not always make one happy with his life. The doctorââ¬â¢s character is described as cruel and indifferent toward his patients, and his attitude toward Kinoââ¬â¢s family is no different. Kino and his wife, Juana, visit the doctor for the first time when their son, Coyotito, is stung by a scorpion. When the doctorââ¬â¢s servant informs him that Coyotito is in dire need of help, the doctor replies, ââ¬Å"I am a doctor, not a veterinaryâ⬠(11) and refuses to treat Coyotito without payment, which Kino does not have. refusal to treat Coyotito solely because Kino can not afford to pay for his services shows the complete lack of compassion the doctor has; he has become so obsessed with money that he is willing to let a baby die. Later, when the doctor hears that Kino has acquired ââ¬Å"the Pearl of the Worldâ⬠, he claims that Kino is a client of his and goes to visit Kino in his home. He tells Kino that the venom from the scorpion bite will return and gives Coyotito medicine that he claims will reverse the veno mââ¬â¢s effect. Soon after, Coyotito is overcome with spasms and vomiting, and the doctor returns to give him ammonia, which stops the babyââ¬â¢s symptoms. Though it is never proved, it is implied that the medicine the doctor initially gaveà Coyotito was what actually caused the babyââ¬â¢s sickness, again showing how little compassion the doctor has for others. He is not concerned about the chance of Coyotito dying, and instead tries to squeeze as much money out of Kino as possible. Through the characterization and actions of the doctor, Steinbeck shows that happiness does not necessarily come with wealth and how people can be brought to do terrible things for want of more money. At the beginning of the novella, Kino is the polar opposite of the doctor; he is content with his life and values his family above all else, but the appearance of the pearl changes him into someone very similar to the materialistic doctor. In the opening pages, it is shown repeatedly how in touch Kino is with nature, which contrasts strongly with the relationship he has with his surroundings while in possession of the pearl. He goes from waking up to the sounds of nature and thinking to himself, ââ¬Å"it was very goodâ⬠(1) to feeling as though he is surrounded by ââ¬Å"the evils of the nightâ⬠(69) and grabbing his knife to protect him. This shows how dramatically his change was, which occur in the span of only a few days. Another major change in Kino is his attitude toward his wife. At the beginning, Kino and Juana have a very loving relationship where they are comfortable enough with each other that there, ââ¬Å"is not need for speechâ⬠(4). This is a stark contrast to their relationship once the pearl is introduced into their lives. Whenever Juana advises Kino to get rid of the pearl, he brushes her off by saying, ââ¬Å"Believe me I am a manâ⬠¦ Hushâ⬠(57). This newfound tension escalates to the point where Kino beats Juana badly when she goes against his word and tries to throw the pearl away herself. Out of all the changes that Kino goes through, the most dehumanizing is the willingness he develops to kill. When someone attacks him in the middle of the night trying to steal the pearl, Kinoââ¬â¢s first impulse is to get his knife out and lunge at the attacker, killing him. Throughout the story, he kills four men total, whereas at the beginning he was a respected, peaceful man. These changes and events show how much of Kinoââ¬â¢s humanity and morality has been taken away as a result of him finding the pearl Throughout the story, most of the characters that come in contact with the pearl end up being corrupted by greed and jealousy. Though they all comeà from different social backgrounds and situations, each of them is stripped of their humanity by their own avarice, showing how universal the effects of greed can be. Like Kino, many people believe that acquiring more money will automatically solve problems, but this is usually not the case. By becoming obsessed with money and materialistic objects, people can quickly lose sight of what is important. Due to this, it is vital for people to stay true to their values and avoid being overcome by greed, lest they suffer the losses of the truly important things in their lives.

The Brilliant Cinematography of Citizen Kane (1941) Essay Example
The Brilliant Cinematography of Citizen Kane (1941) Essay Citizen Kane has been voted the greatest American film to be ever made in poll after poll. And this assessment comes from critics, directors and fans alike. There are several reasons why this achievement is possible. When it was released in 1941, the film revolutionized and revitalized the art of filmmaking in Hollywood, which was languishing at the time in its own aura of complacency. The precocious genius of Orson Welles is stamped in all aspects of filmmaking ââ¬â the direction, screenplay, storyline, camerawork, editing, casting, and even in the political messages contained therein. It is an anomaly though, that, though the film was nominated for 9 Oscar categories, it only won in one. (Jackson Merlock, 2006) The only plausible rationale for this discrepancy between its legendary status and lack of formal recognition by the Academy is that the film was way ahead of its time. The film pioneered and engendered so many facets of the filmmaking process that it took several years for members of the Academy to warm up to its accomplishments. This essay will focus on the cinematography of the film and highlight how it contributes to and enhances the overall cinematic excellence. The opening sequence of the film shows the funeral of the iconic American media baron Charles Foster Kane in his isolated residence in the monumental Xanadu. What follows is a10 minute obituary in the form of a newsreel that encompasses all the key moments in the life of the great man. Beginning with his childhood in the rural American wilderness, the newsreel traces how much wealth and power Kane was able to acquire during his peak. This newsreel sequence is one of the most original and brilliant in the history of cinema. The serious yet authoritative voice of the newsreel narrator ebb and flow in-tune with the events of Charles Kaneââ¬â¢s life. The intonation, irony and subtle humour of this voiceover is executed to perfection. Matching this aural perfection is the visuals, which are some of the best montages ever assembled. The pace of the montage arrangement is brisk and the shots are short and crisp. The sequencing of these shots adheres to a musical rhythm, which is ag ain in tune with the rhythmic oration in the voiceover. What is striking about this montage is its visual display of power ââ¬â either political or economic. The shots of elephants and horses airlifted to the private zoo in Xanadu are forever etched in the mind. It is difficult to lose the symbolism of power in air-lifting one of the biggest mammals in the planet. Likewise, the birdââ¬â¢s eye view of the sprawling Xanadu is a visual illustration of Kaneââ¬â¢s wealth. When the voiceover narrates how politically influential Kane was, his image is embedded into a standard German propaganda shot of Hitler waving to a crowd. This is one of the earlier implementation of morphing and overlapping two discrete visuals into one shot. In the context of the film, not only was it humorous but also serves to illustrate the kind of political influence that Charles Kane wielded in his pomp. One of the most referenced scenes in the movie, illustrating Wellesââ¬â¢ and cinematograp her Gregg Tolandââ¬â¢s use of deep-focus photography is the one about the childhood of young Charles Foster Kane. So much has been its impact that, We will write a custom essay sample on The Brilliant Cinematography of Citizen Kane (1941) specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now We will write a custom essay sample on The Brilliant Cinematography of Citizen Kane (1941) specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer We will write a custom essay sample on The Brilliant Cinematography of Citizen Kane (1941) specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer ââ¬Å"After Citizen Kane Deep focus photography became widespread, especially in the so-called film noir films of the following decade. Wellesââ¬â¢ audaciously effective idea of combining miniatures with full scale settings in sweeping camera moves harkens back to 1930ââ¬â¢s The Bat Whispers, photographed by Ray June, ASC for Roland West. The Kane visuals also have much in common with those of Mad Love (1935). It is evident that Toland originated some of the ideas that Welles utilized so perfectly, and that Walker and Dunn also influenced Welles. The collaboration of unit art director Perry Ferguson was even stronger than is usual between director, cinematographer and designer. Ferguson worked closely throughout with Welles in making hundreds of idea sketches to fit the evolving concepts of the film.â⬠(Turner, 1991) Perspective is another device through which Welles conveys power equations in the film. One masterly use of perspective is Kaneââ¬â¢s campaign for governor of New York. The hall in which he gives his public address is so grand in scale that people seated on stage look miniscule. The audience look even smaller and are shown in mere abstraction. There is a huge larger-than-life photograph of Kane placed in the background, implying the grandeur of his political ambition. This juxtaposition of the vastness of the auditorium and the miniature of the audience reinforces the high stakes of the political campaign. Perspective is likewise used in another scene where Mr. Thompson, the reporter looking for the story behind the enigmatic last words ââ¬Ërosebudââ¬â¢, interview Kaneââ¬â¢s close associate Mr. Bernstein. Mr. Bernstein is by then the Chairman of the business empire left behind by Kane and jokingly tells the reporter that heââ¬â¢s got all the time in the world for this interview. The mise-en-scene for this scene is elaborate and precise. The chair in which Bernstein sits is too big for his size. But this is no error of oversight. It symbolizes a throne just as high shining black-hats represent the capitalist millionaire. The way the shot is framed, we see a high open window through which the towering skyscrapers of New York City are visible, further accentuating the position of power in which Mr. Bernstein is located. Citizen Kane and some other films by Welles have been noted for their dealing of visual space. In an illuminating essay, film critic Hector Currie has pointed ââ¬Å"to a tension or duality in the film between containment and releaseâ⬠. (Jaffe, 1979) The film encompasses a wide assortment of places and journeys, but it distinctly returns to ââ¬Å"spatial dilemmas and movements too fundamental for the hero of the film or the viewer to ignore.â⬠(Jaffe, 1979) This duality of containment and release in Citizen Kane ââ¬Å"persists in the succession of shots we encounter once we are within the mansion. The presiding significance of the window mediating that duality also continues. Inside we are confronted not only by the bed we began to discern from outside the window but also by the vague shape of a figure prone in the bed. In three shots we will see that the figure is Kane dying. The access we have gained is to a rather special room, the chamber of his death. Furthermore, in the dissolve from the exterior shot of the window to the interior shot, the ledge of the window has come to coincide with the lower horizontal line of the bed. The window has conducted us, then, directly to Kaneââ¬â¢s deathbed. Yet more important is that the coincidence of window ledge and bed implies that Kane is dying on the threshold between open and closed space.â⬠(Jaffe, 1979) In their palatial abode in Xanadu, the slowly declining relationship of Charles Kane and his ever estranging wife Susan Alexander is shown with great visual effect. The use of space is exploited very well by cinematographer Gregg Toland. The palatial mansion in which they live a secluded life separates the couple more than offering them privacy. Even the words they speak give out echoes due to the acoustics of the hall, thereby creating an artificiality and lack of intimacy in their communication. There is one poignant scene in this sequence, where Susan will be solving a jigsaw puzzle by the fireside. The size of the fireside is unusually big and it creates the illusion of an unassuming victim sitting beside a Chinese fire dragon which is about to swallow the former. It is scenes like these will underscore the visual brilliance of Citizen Kane. Its visual symbolisms, perspectives, lighting and framing are so brilliant that even watching the film in mute is a pleasurable experien ce. Indeed watching it thus opens up a new dimension in the appreciation of the film. The interplay of the visual and aural mediums into producing a synchronous whole is even comparable to that of an opera. For example,

Physics Pendulum Lab Report Essays
Physics Pendulum Lab Report Essays Physics Pendulum Lab Report Paper Physics Pendulum Lab Report Paper In this experiment, only different masses will be used n order to prove that mass does not have an effect on the time it takes for a pendulum to go through a period. Purpose The purpose of this experiment is to determine the effect of mass on the period off pendulum. Hypothesis If the mass of the pendulum increases then the time for the swing will neither increase nor decrease because the mass does not have an effect on the period of a pendulum. Materials and Methods The materials used in this experiment are: 3 Different Masses (egg, egg, egg) Clamp String Clock Protractor With these materials, the experiment was conducted in the following procedure: ) Place the clamp to a flat surface with a string attached to it 2) Attach a egg mass to the end of the string opposite from the pivot 3) Pull the mass to the side with an amplitude of 700 4) Release the mass and allow it to swing 10 periods while timing it 5) Divide the total time by 10 in order to get the time it takes for 1 period of the pendulum 6) Repeat steps 2-5 with different masses (egg, egg, egg) Observations The results between the different masses were not all the same number however, they were close. The egg mass period took 1. 5 seconds and the egg took 1. Seconds. The egg and egg masses both took 1. 7 seconds to complete a period. Discussion and Conclusion What was expected at the end of the experiment was for all of the times between the different masses to be th e same however, this was not the case. The slight differences in time were most likely due to random and human error. During the experiment, a clock was used to time the periods in seconds. Using the clock falls under the random error category since the timing wasnt precise as it would be if a stopwatch was used instead. The other error in this experiment would be human error because the experiment had one person release the pendulum after the person timing gives the signal. The time between the signals are given and when the pendulum starts swinging could be off so in order to avoid this error in subsequent trials, the person timing the period should be the same person releasing the pendulum. Although the results between the 4 masses were different, they were only off by less than . 3 seconds. The results showed that difference in mass does not have a significant effect on the pendulum period thus, making the hypothesis for this experiment true.

Researching French-Canadian Ancestry Genealogy
Researching French-Canadian Ancestry Genealogy Even if you cant read French, tracing French-Canadian ancestors can be easier than many people expect due to the excellent record keeping of the Roman Catholic Church in Canada. Baptisms, marriages,à and burials were all dutifully recorded in the parish registers, with copies also sent to civil authorities. This, along with the incredibly high rate of French-Canadian records preservation, offers a much greater, more complete record of people living in Quebec and other parts of New France than in most other areas of North America and the world. In most cases, French-Canadian ancestry should be fairly easily traceable back to the immigrant ancestors, and you may even be able to trace some lines further back in France. Maiden Names Dit Names As in France, most French-Canadian church and civil records are recorded under a womans maiden name, making it much easier to trace both sides of your family tree. Sometimes, but not always, a womans married surname is included as well. In many areas of French-speaking Canada, families sometimes adopted an alias, or second surname in order to distinguish between different branches of the same family, especially when the families remained in the same town for generations. These alias surnames, also known as dit names, can often be found preceded by the word dit, as in Armand Hudon dit Beaulieu where Armand is the given name, Hudon is the original family surname, and Beaulieu is the dit name. Sometimes an individual even adopted the dit name as the family name and dropped the original surname. This practice was most common in France among soldiers and sailors. Dit names are important for anyone researching French-Canadian ancestors, as they necessitate searching the records under several various surname combinations. French-Canadian Rà ©pertoires (Indexes) Since the mid-nineteenth century, many French Canadians have worked to trace their families back to France and, in doing so, have created a large number of indexes to various parish records, known as rà ©pertoires or repertories. The vast majority of these published indexes or rà ©pertoires are of marriage (mariage) records, although a few exist which include baptisms (baptà ªme) and burials (sà ©pulture). Rà ©pertoires are generally arranged alphabetically by surname, while those that are organized chronologically usually include a surname index. By exploring all of the rà ©pertoires that include a particular parish (and following up in the original parish records), one can often take a French-Canadian family tree back through many generations. The majority of published rà ©pertoires are not yet available online. They can, however, often be found in major libraries with a strong French-Canadian focus, or libraries local to the parish(s) of interest. Many have been microfilmed and are available through the Family History Library in Salt Lake City and Family History Centers throughout the world. Major online repertoires or databases of indexed French-Canadian marriage, baptism and burial records include: BMS2000 - This cooperative project involving over twenty genealogical societies in Quà ©bec and Ontario is one of the largest online sources of indexed baptism, marriage, and burial (sà ©pulture) records. It covers the period from the beginning of the French colony until the end of the XXth century. The Drouin Collection - Available online as a subscription database from Ancestry.com, this amazing collection includes nearly 15 million French-Canadian parish and other records of interest from Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, and many U.S states with a large French-Canadian population. Indexed too! Church Records As in France, records of the Roman Catholic Church are the single best source for tracing French-Canadian families. Christening, marriage and burial records have been carefully recorded and preserved in the parish registers from 1621 to the present. Between 1679 and 1993 all parishes in Quà ©bec were required to send duplicate copies to the civil archives, which has ensured that the majority of Roman Catholic parish records in Quà ©bec still survive to this day. These baptismal, marriage and burial records are generally written in French (some earlier records may be in Latin), but often follow a standardized format which makes them easy to follow even if you know little or know French. Marriage records are an especially important source for immigrant ancestors to New France, or French-Canadian Canada because they usually document the immigrants parish and town of origin in France. The Family History Library has microfilmed the majority of Quà ©bec Catholic registers from 1621-1877, as well as most civil copies of Catholic registers between 1878 and 1899. This collection of Quà ©bec Catholic Parish Registers, 1621-1900 has been digitized and is also available for viewing online for free through FamilySearch. There are a few indexed entries, but to access most records youll need to use the browse images link and go through them manually.

Women in the US Military - Speech or Presentation Example Ever since, women have assumed powerful positions in the defense system of America. Women as nurses in military During the Spanish-American war conducted in 1898, thousands of American soldiers had yellow fever, typhoid, and malaria (ââ¬Å"Highlights in theâ⬠). The Army Medical Department had to deal with too much with limited resources. Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) were assigned the task of selecting qualified and professional nurses to serve the US Army upon the suggestion of Dr. Anita Newcomb McGee to the Army Surgeon General. Army hospitals appointed 1500 civilian contract nurses before the end of the war in different regions including Hawaii, the US, Guam, Puerto Rico, Philippines, Cuba, and the Hospital Ship Relief. Dr. McGee was made the Acting Assistant Surgeon General who was asked to write legislation for the establishment of a permanent nursesââ¬â¢ corpse in the US Army. Deployment of women in the combat zone The number of American women that partici pated in the First World War was over 35000 (ââ¬Å"Early Women Soldiersâ⬠). As a result of war, American military forces saw a shortage of male recruits. That was when the US Navy and Marine Corps actively solicited women to serve in the combat troops in an attempt to fill up the gap. Thousands of women applied for the positions as Marine Corps Yeoman whereas the call of Navy to become Yeomanettes was responded to by over 11000 women (ââ¬Å"Early Women Soldiersâ⬠). In 2013, long-stayed ban on the inclusion of women in the combat positions was lifted. Lifting of this ban can be attributed to the fact that women today are an integral part of the US military and have been showing their interest in undertaking physically demanding roles in military as tough as performance in the combat zone. Women in the American army have found themselves increasingly in the combatââ¬â¢s reality during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. ââ¬Å"It's clear to all of us that women are contri buting in unprecedented ways to the military's mission of defending the nationâ⬠¦The fact is that American women are already serving in harm's way today all over the world and in every branch of our armed forcesâ⬠¦Many have made the ultimate sacrifice, and our nation owes them a deep debt of gratitudeâ⬠(Panetta cited in ââ¬Å"Military leaders liftâ⬠). Timeline of women in military (ââ¬Å"Timeline: Women inâ⬠) in DoSomething.org provides a detailed account of women in military through a timeline as shown below. 1846-1848 Elizabeth Newcom, a woman got enlisted in the Mexican-American war posing as a man. She covered a distance of 600 miles with the infantry before getting identified as a woman and being discharged for that. 1861-1865 Women nursed the soldiers that were wounded in the American Civil War, but still did not have military status. 1901 America established the Army Nurse Corps whereas the Navy Nurse Corps was established eight years after that. 191 7-1918 Armed forces started to consider assignment of administrative roles to the women like the roles of stenographers and operators. In addition to that, two women became members of the Coast Guard for the first time. 1941-1945 During the Second World War, armed forces finally enlisted and included women in almost every job which was not combat support or combat. June 12, 1948 The Womenââ¬â¢s Armed Services Integration Act was signed by President Truman. This Act established a permanent place for women in every branch of the military. As a result of this Act, military was made one of the first organizations to provide women with pay equal to the pay of men in all tasks assigned to the women employees. However, there was an upper limit to which women could be promoted in the military; lieutenant colonel was the

Leadership in Health Care Organizations Practicum Coursework - 6
Leadership in Health Care Organizations Practicum - Coursework Example She was and she still is excellent and a compassionate leader not only to me but to everybody working in and out of the unit. I am proud of my career today because the nurse manager welcomed me in the department with love and care. She ensured that I learnt different aspects of nursing slowly as I worked, dealing with both positive and negative issues at the workplace and gaining experience. She taught me how to handle my colleagues, the patients and managers at the hospital. She provided help not only as a professional but also as a mother because of the vast experience she had in nursing. She knew that an inexperienced and required help and leadership from a highly experienced nurse to ensure that I learn the necessary skill in nursing practice. She responded to this by taking the role of developing me professionally. According to servant leadership, provision is an important element for leaders in the sense that they are supposed to provide direction to their subordinates. This is important because it enables employees to understand what the leader and the organization expects of them (DelHousaye & Brewer, 2004). This is beneficial both to the employees and to the organization. To provide direction, the leader has to tailor the work to fit the abilities and needs of the employees. On the other hand, provision under the secular leadership, provision must be directed towards the leaders rather than the subordinates. Leaders must be given motivation to lead the subordinates as opposed to provision in secular leadership (Baxter, 2011). My leader provided me with direction when I needed it most. When I was employed at the unit, I was a new nurse with no experience and with a lack of confidence in my abilities. However, the leader tailored my work to fit into my abilities and the fact that I was inexperienced. For example, she gave me work that I could understand easily and gave me more complex responsibilities

The Similarities and Differences Between Hemodialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis Essay Example for Free
The Similarities and Differences Between Hemodialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis Essay Many individuals are diagnose with kidney disease each year, and some individuals face a difficult situation concerning the possibility of doing dialysis, and choosing what type of dialysis treatment is right for the individual. Both Hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis give patients the quality of life. In contrast both procedures are done differently, Hemodialysis patients are dependent, and peritoneal dialysis patients are self-sufficient. In comparison both removes waste from the bloodstream; however, both procedures are beneficial to treat kidney disease. Hemodialysis is a common procedure that removes waste from the bloodstream in patientsââ¬â¢ whose kidneys does not function properly. The hemodialysis procedure consist of using a machine called the dialyzer, and the patientsââ¬â¢ own veins, which is often called a fistula, to transfer blood back and forth from the dialyzer to the patientsââ¬â¢ arm. However; because the fistula takes approximately six weeks to heal, patients often get a Vortex Graft placed, a Vortex Graft is plastic tubing placed inside of the patientsââ¬â¢ vein most patients can use their graft in two to three weeks; However; there are some patients who have to start dialysis immediately; therefore, a Tunnel Catheter is placed, a Tunnel Catheter is a long flexible tube surgically inserted in a large vein in the neck, for immediate dialysis use. Patients often do hemodialysis three days a week, every other day. Most patientsââ¬â¢ dialysis treatment runs approximately three to five hours each day, depending on what type of access they have. The day of their hemodialysis treatment, patients weigh themselves at the center and prepare to be seated to start their treatment. The dialysis technicians prep the dialyzer before the patients are ready to start dialyzing. The dialysis technicians take the patientsââ¬â¢ temperature and blood pressure before the patients are seated. The dialysis technicians cleans the access site and make sure the site is working properly. Dialysis technicians have to follow a certain protocol when putting dialysis patients on for their treatment. Therefore; patients and technicians wear face mask to keep from cross contaminations of blood and germs. More often; dialysis technicians change gloves throughout the treatment session. The techniciansââ¬â¢ monitors the patientsââ¬â¢ blood pressure throughout the dialysis procedure, because patients run a risk of their blood pressure getting too low; dialysis technician may have to administer saline solution to bring the patientsââ¬â¢ blood pressure back up to a normal range. The dialysis technicians log the patientsââ¬â¢ blood pressure throughout the dialysis session. Once the patients are done with their dialysis session, the technicians take their temperature, blood pressure, and make sure their blood pressure is at a normal range before letting the patients leave their chair, once blood pressure is at a normal range; patients weigh themselves, and the technicians log it into the computer. Hemodialysis patients rely on their dialysis technicians for their dialysis treatment needs. In addition, hemodialysis patients run into risk associated with taking hemodialysis. One of the most common risks is clotting of the arteries in the arm. Most of the time patients are sent to a nearby hospital to see a vascular surgeon to have to clot removed. Often the clot can be removed, and the patients can return the next day to restart their dialysis treatment; however, there are times when the clot cannot be removed; therefore patients have a temporary tunnel catheter placed. Tunnel catheter is only placed temporarily placed until the surgeon can either fix the clotted arties, or place a new fistula. Tunnel catheter is the primary cause of most infections in hemodialysis patients and is one the primary reason for hospitalization of hemodialysis patients. Hemodialysis patients often drink too much fluid and in result have to pull off more fluid; therefore, their blood pressure may get too low. When hemodialysis pulls off excess fluid it also pulls off potassium, and patients may experience severe cramping. Furthermore, hemodialysis patients follow a diet called ââ¬Å"The Renal Diet;â⬠patients have to eat foods; low in sodium, low in potassium, and low in phosphorus. Most patients on hemodialysis have a fluid restriction, normally; the fluid restriction is about four cups of fluid a day or six cups a fluid a day. Hemodialysis pulls the protein from the patientsââ¬â¢ body; therefore patients have to eat a high protein diet. On the contrary, peritoneal dialysis is a common procedure that removes waste from the bloodstream in patientsââ¬â¢ whose kidneys does not function properly. The peritoneal dialysis procedure consists of using a fluid called dialysate, and a catheter; the catheter is placed in the abdomen of the kidney dialysis patients. When patients do peritoneal dialysis the dialysate solution is placed in the abdomen of the kidney patients and sits there for up to four hours; the hours the fluid sits is called the dwell time. Once the fluid has sat for a while the kidney dialysis patients exchange the old dialysate solution with new dialysate solution and start the whole process over again. Peritoneal dialysis can be done in two different ways; Automated Peritoneal Dialysis and Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis. Automated Peritoneal Dialysis is done while the kidney dialysis patients are asleep and Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis is done every four hours approximately five times a day for 30 minutes. Patients who do peritoneal dialysis do it in their own home. Before starting peritoneal dialysis patients are properly trained by a nurse for three weeks. Patients must be able to do own treatments once training is over. Peritoneal dialysis can choose what time a day to do their treatments, and what type of peritoneal dialysis treatment they prefer. Patients must order supplies each month and must have adequate amount of space to store supplies. Typically, patients start the day off by taken their blood pressure, temperature, and weight, and log the results. Before patients start a peritoneal dialysis treatment; patients close doors, window, and clean table with disinfectant. Patientsââ¬â¢ then gather supplies for treatment, put on a face mask, and clean hands and exit site. Patients then hook themselves up and began exchanging fluid, after done with treatment patients properly dispose of waste and enjoy the rest of their day. In addition, peritoneal dialysis patients run into risk associated with taking peritoneal dialysis. One of the most common risks is an infection called Peritonitis. Peritonitis is an infection of the peritoneum; a peritoneum is the lining of the abdominal that forms a sack. Most of the time patients are given antibiotics to eliminate the infection. Peritoneal dialysis patients can develop a hernia; a hernia is a tear of the wall where an organ sticks out; therefore, patients should not lift heavy objects. Patients may experience bloating, constipation, weight gain, fluid overload, and dry skin associated with peritoneal dialysis. Furthermore, peritoneal dialysis patients follow a diet called ââ¬Å"The Renal Diet;â⬠patients have to eat foods low in sodium, low in phosphorus; however, patient can eat a potassium rich diet, because they dialyze every day. Some patients on peritoneal dialysis have a fluid restriction; however, most patients who do peritoneal dialysis do not have a fluid restriction, because they dialyze every day. Peritoneal dialysis pulls the protein for the patientsââ¬â¢ body; therefore patients have to eat a high protein diet. Peritoneal dialysis patients have to eat a low calorie diet, because they get some of their calories from the dextrose found in the dialysate solution. In conclusion, both hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis are similar in so many ways; for example both dialysis procedures cleanse waste from the bloodstream of patients whose kidneys does not function properly, patients follow the same type of diet, and both treatments have to be done in a clean environment. Hemodialysis use a machine called the dialyzer and the patientsââ¬â¢ arteries to transfer blood to and from the machine, and peritoneal dialysis use a fluid called dialysate and transfer fluid through a catheter placed in the patientsââ¬â¢ abdomen. Hemodialysis patients rely on their technician for all their dialysis treatments need, and peritoneal dialysis patients basically do all their on treatments. Hemodialysis patientsââ¬â¢ schedules are preset, and peritoneal dialysis patientsââ¬â¢ schedules are more flexible. In contrast both procedures are done differently, Hemodialysis patients are dependent, and peritoneal dialysis patients are self-sufficient. In comparison both removes waste from the bloodstream; however, both procedures are beneficial to treat kidney disease.

An Analysis of Overbooking and Impacts on Customer Behavior Within the
Introduction This report seeks to investigate and analyse the main characteristics of overbooking and the impacts this can have on a hotels management systems and customers. It examines the consequences of both successful and ineffective overbooking management decisions depending on the way in which it is managed and the effect this can have on the hotels profitability of the hotel. It also looks at the effect that overbooking has on customer behaviour and loyalty and legislations that have been passed in the USA. Existing research on yield management analysesââ¬â¢ overbooking and how this can be implemented effectively within hotels, some researchers have then expanded upon this to incorporate effects on profitability, customer service and service recovery. Secondary data was collect through journals, books, hospitality related magazines and hospitality news articles in order to gain framework for the research topic. Literature Review Companies throughout the hospitality industry a keen to implement the most successful techniques in order to make the best of their efficiency and increase their profitability and yield management, including overbooking strategies which is important in the operation of a hotel to maximise revenue and are increasingly putting these in to practise throughout the company (Hwang et al, 2009), an unoccupied room in a hotel offers a revenue opportunity, whether or not the no show customer has paid for it. Overbooking forms a part of a hotels yield management, also known as revenue management and can be defined as ââ¬Å"the application of information systems and pricing strategies to allocate the right capacity to the accurate customers, cost and timeâ⬠(Kimes et al, 2003: 30), by expanding on this term it ... ...a donnybrook.â⬠: Hotel Management Magazine, New York. Acer Group
The Acer Group Acer global mission statement ââ¬Å"fresh technology enjoyed by everyone, everywhereâ⬠. The Acer group allied with other companies is globally one of the largest Manufacturers for PC, computer parts. Mobile computers, network server components etcâ⬠¦ Starting in Taiwan, Acer was the market leader in thirteen countries around the world and ranked top five in thirty countries globally. With more than 120 enterprises in 44 countries, supporting dealers and distributers over 100 countries, 23,000plus employees around the world excl Taiwan, , US$500million operation in OEM manufacturing, Concentrating on the 3E market- education, entertainment, e-commerce with all its abilities Acer truly made itself a Global Organization, in 1997. Working with Acer Operating independently, yet working together was one of the features of the Acer Group. Decentralization in organization allowed the Acer employees to become responsible in decision making process. The senior management however tried to preserve the concept of ââ¬Å"Symbiotic common interestâ⬠, assuaging any difference of opinion and consolidating them, and keeping up the centralized core. The Acer group had a long term vision to transform as a high-tech global corporation, hence taking a smart step to enter foreign markets by allying with the local distributors, retailers, suppliers, Managers, labor etc. Every region has its own need in case of electronics; Acer kept up to the local needs and customized their products accordingly.A local touch was achieved by Acer with every person associated with be it the customer or supplier or its own employee. The Acer aimed at expanding its manufacturing globally, by setting 17 plants in different countries. However it faced the difficulty in transportation of the materials or assembled parts due to various custom restrictions in each region. Different countries applied ISO regulations independently. Certain times these made it difficult for the Acer to continue the traditional way of working as they had planned. The most affected area was the inventory at the global level. It was difficult to predict the inventory level in the market with rapid changes happening around, moreover the product supply was far away. It was now necessary to set up a centralized kitchen to each production unit to reduce the freight and material handling costs. Hence it adopted the ââ¬ËFast Food Modelââ¬â¢, wherein the perishable and non-perishable goods were handled and transported separately as per their need. The inventory turnover was however now reduced to half once the fast food was implemented. Each production unit now had its assembly plant, developed R&D, which helped them in shortening the time and cost of component production to delivery. The quality of service they provided was of the foremost importance. Exploring Chinese Mainland Acer wanted to secure a firm footing in the niche market. After suffering the losses in 1996-97, Acer real ized that to win over the large markets it has first capture the smaller surrounding the larger ones. The big markets like Japan and USA had so many competitors trying to find its place that it was impossible for Acer to step in or sustain. However Acer tried entering USA, facing a big time loss. This Failure motivated the Acer to apply the ââ¬Å"Goâ⬠Game philosophy of the WAR. Capture the villages to win over the cities. Hence seeing immense scope in the mainland Acer had plans to set up the unit in the Mainland. The Acer Group assumed that being aware of the Chinese culture and ethics would make them easy to establish in the mainland, however the reality was not very pleasing. Initially the political issues between china and Taiwan since the World War II were the major concern.Neither did Taiwan Govt. allowed the invasion of Acer in China mainland, nor was China willing to welcome the setting of Acer in the mainland. However, later after few years in 1998, Taiwan opened its port for Chinese materials; china was still reluctant to do so. Every exchange of goods happened via the south port of china which increased the freight cost. The manager at Acer still thinks moving to china is a good decision as the political issues seemed to be sorting out to some extent as well the WTO granting them membership. Moreover he assumes to see immense resources which could ascend them to their destination. Yet again, there stood another problem the human resources. Though Taiwan and China are closely related traditionally both share complete different work cultures and ethics. The labor in china though was cheap; no guarantee was given about the reliability. No family bonding, no tax incentives, nothing worked. Moreover, the Taiwanese workforce, whether the manager or labor was reluctant to relocate; reason- safety issues, status and standard of living, higher level of education in Taiwan, ocial living which were genuine! Finding reliable, efficient, skilled work force another major issue Acer has to deal with. Discussion China is emerging country in manufacturing. It possesses abundant resources that could catalyze the success of any growing manufacturing industry. The case study indicates about the plans of Acer as well the problem they are facing implementing it. The sales exhibit shows the drop downs of the company during 1996-97. Reason: move to bigger markets in its first step rather taking smaller ones.Hence capturing the niche is surely a wise decision. China has immense resources in terms of land, workforce, etc. Major PC manufacturers now realized the advantages of moving the plants to china, being among the first ones and nearest ones, Acer should not leave the opportunity of growing, for some hurdles across their way. â⬠¢The Acer groups seems to lack with the international expertise from the previous experiences, networking is important in supply chain;they should associate with the locals to understand work culture of the Chinese labors, the incentive policy.Acer has been hiring the locals, and should follow the same and not force the Taiwanese to relocate. â⬠¢However the senior management will have to relocate, in need of a skilled employee who can centralize the autonomy within each plant. The Taiwanese managers however can be provided with better social living facilities, relocation incentives that could maintain their standards. â⬠¢Setting a plant in sparsely industrialized region, closer to east coast. More employment for the locals- cheap labor plus ready to learn. Maximize information flow; minimize material flow between Taiwan and China to avoid Political conflicts and custom issues by utilizing resources within. â⬠¢Not many major PC manufacturers have their units in China, Setting a unit in China will help Acer to invade Asian and European countries. Reducing operation and transportation efforts and cost. To overcome the past loses, Changes in organizational working is necessary, hence r isk is inevitable! Acer to manufacture in China?! (Review)

Choose three significant scenes during the course of Romeo Essay
Julietââ¬â¢s character is dramatically portrayed in this play. The two main characters, Juliet Capulet and Romeo Montague both change and mature over the progress of the play but Juliet changes from what could be seen as ââ¬Ëgirl to womanââ¬â¢ in just under a week. There is a definite difference in her personality from the meeting of Romeo to her marriage to him. As the play progresses, we see Juliet maturing and developing into an independent young woman, which is quite different from the beginning of the play when Juliet never thought of marriage or of defying her parents and family. In Scene 1 Act 3 Juliet enters the play alongside Lady Capulet and the Nurse, who approach her to talk about a forthcoming marriage that Lady Capulet and her husband have planned. They want her to marry Paris at the age of thirteen, however with Juliet being so young and unsure of herself, and of what marriage entails, she does not really have anything to say on the issue. Before they start to talk about this subject, the Nurse and Lady Capulet talk about Julietââ¬â¢s age, and Shakespeare seems to make sure that the point she is only thirteen stand out among all other things in order to show her vulnerability and her youthfulness to the audience. The Nurse talks about when Juliet was only a baby and the Nurse was there as a ââ¬Ëwet nurseââ¬â¢ to Juliet. She reminisces about Juliet being ââ¬Ëthe prettiest babe that eââ¬â¢er I nursedââ¬â¢ (Line 60), after which the nurse gives a long speech that is full of sexual innuendos which Juliet does not understand. This shows the lack of maturity and the vulnerability that Juliet has, because if she does not understand the jokes, then she may not understand other more important things that are said to her. However depending on the director who is directing the performance, a performance may make Juliet understand the whole speech and laugh at the jokes or the opposite may be shown in her not listening to the Nurse. If the Nurse directs her speech solely at Lady Capulet it would again show the youthfulness and naivety of Juliet. When Lady Capulet finally gets to talk to Juliet about the topic of marriage Juliet does not seem to understand what she is meaning by it. She has never thought of marriage nor does she wish to for a while. Lady Capulet attempts to get Juliet to look at marriage and describes her own past, telling her that she was already expecting her at the age Juliet is now. Juliet replies ââ¬ËIââ¬â¢ll look to like, if looking liking move. ââ¬Ë (Line 97 & 98). This again shows her immaturity to marriage as she thinks that marriage can happen only if she wants it to and that she can choose when she wants to love someone. In Act 2 Scene 2, Romeo and Juliet are able to talk in private without any distractions. This is a big scene for Julietââ¬â¢s character development because she finally meets some one that she thinks she loves and it shows her as not being the nai ve child that she was but now growing towards being a mature woman. However, she despairs about the dispute between the Capulet and Montague family households as she asks herself ââ¬Ëwherefore are thou Romeo? ââ¬Ë (Line 33) meaning ââ¬ËWhy are you called Romeo? ââ¬Ë She talks about how it would be if he were not called Romeo so that everything would be alright and she would be allowed to love him, but because he is part of the Montague household, then she cannot. This again shows some maturity because she understands the point as to why she should not love him. Once Romeo actually comes out and shows himself to Juliet, she is concerned for his safety. Normally if a member of a household from Montague was to invade the Capulet home then Juliet would cry out but because she feels love for him in the short amount of time they have been together, then she does not. Juliet feels a new type of love that she has not felt before, showing her progression into adolescence. Juliet admits embarrassment about talking of her love to Romeo. She pleads with Romeo and asks him if he loves her and wants an honest answer. No innocent young girl would ask a man if he loved her, showing again the maturity that Juliet has been given by Shakespeare in the very short amount of time in that evening. This scene shows the progress of Julietââ¬â¢s maturity again as she is talking to Romeo and discussing their love affair which is actually forbidden and would be seen to be wrong by her parents. This is showing evidence of the beginnings of rebellion and individualism from her as she normally would have followed the rules of her parents, but now she is doing things behind their back. Scene 3 Act 5 deals with many aspects showing Julietââ¬â¢s capacity for becoming a young woman. She has to make many difficult choices in this scene and there is no one around that she can turn to and look to for help. She has just spent the night with Romeo in her bedroom and warns him that he must leave, otherwise there is the risk of him being caught. However the Nurse comes in warning Juliet that her mother is coming. She must now get Romeo to leave her room so that he isnââ¬â¢t found by her mother. However they seem to not be able to part from each other, showing their affection and love for each other. When Lady Capulet enters the room, Juliet feels uncomfortable with her presence there and would rather she left. She says ââ¬ËMadam, I am not well. ââ¬Ë (Line 78) to try to get rid of her but it does not work. Juliet has again to lie to her mother when she says ââ¬ËIndeed I never shall be satisfied with Romeo, till I behold him ââ¬â Dead. ââ¬Ë (Line 93 & 94). Of course this is not true, but to protect the secret of her relationship to Romeo, she cannot give rise to any suspicions in Lady Capulet, even if this means asking her to kill him. Her increasingly adult emotions lead her to protecting Romeo at all costs, even if it means deceiving her mother. Lady Capulet came to talk to Juliet about her getting married the very next day. Juliet was not happy and did not want to get married to Paris as she is already married to Romeo, however neither Lady Capulet nor her husband knows this. Juliet protests and refuses to marry him, however Lady Capulet tells her that she must take it up with her father. When Capulet enters the room he is happy and cheerful, however this is soon to change after he has talked to Juliet. Juliet must build up the courage that she would not have been able to do earlier on in her life, to tell her father that she does not want to marry Paris. She has to explain to him that she is thankful that he has tried to make her marriage perfect but without giving away the hint that she is already involved with someone else. She has to suffer the many insults that Capulet throws at her and almost be physically assaulted by him, as he says ââ¬ËMy fingers itch. ââ¬Ë (Line 164). The Nurse and Lady Capulet try to help her at first but nothing is accomplished and finally, when Capulet leaves, Juliet is feeling at her lowest point. She turns to her Mother for support but she simply says ââ¬ËTalk not to me, for Iââ¬â¢ll not speak a word. Do as thou wilt, for I have done with thee. ââ¬Ë Juliet then turns to her good friend the Nurse, however again the Nurse will not help and support her. The Nurse explains to Juliet that Romeo is an impossible match and maybe it is not such a good idea to stay with him. She tells her that Paris is a good man and worthy of her love. This makes Juliet feel as though she is just a little girl again as she is being told what she must do and that her opinion is not needed. However Juliet is not about to be kept at this level, so she tells the audience that she will go to the Friar and seek help there, but if that fails, then she always has the power to die. Just saying this shows an immense emotional development by Juliet. No little girl would say the things that she has says, which proves to us that she is no little girl anymore. She is turning into a woman and her parents are helping her even when they are shouting at her, because it gives her more strength to stand up to them later on. Act 4 Scene 3 is one of the most important scenes in the play and here, Shakespeare portrays the character of Juliet as maturing to an even higher level and shows her growing from adolescence to womanhood, and also shows the highs and lows of her emotions. This scene shows her ready to take the potion that she has just been given by the Friar, even while not knowing exactly what it may do to her. She does not know if it is actually poison or what the side effects may be, as she wonders, What if it be a poison which the friar Subtly hath ministered to have me dead, Lest in this marriage he should be dishonoured, Because he married me before to Romeo? (Line 24-27). Juliet is unsure of whether or not to trust the Friar, showing us that the innocence of her younger self has been replaced by a more cynical distrust of other peoples motives. Her thoughts become very morbid and she starts to imagine the terror of waking up, trapped in the vault with her dead ancestors. She drinks the potion, calling out ââ¬ËRomeo! Romeo! Romeo! I drink to thee. ââ¬Ë (Line 58). Her willingness to take this huge risk shows how desperate she is to be with Romeo and how she cannot bear the thought of being forced to marry Paris, emphasising her true, fully developed, adult love for Romeo. In this play of Shakespeareââ¬â¢s, Juliet has turned from a young girl who was not able to make up her own mind about important issues and who was dependent on her family, into a fully developed woman who could look after herself, lie when she had to and was emotionally independent. At the beginning of the play, she had no idea what was really meant by marriage or what love really was. But once she met Romeo, she started to change and mature, and would even deceive her own family in order to protect the love between herself and Romeo. Juliet chose her love of Romeo over everything else, even when it led to their tragic deaths. Her words, behaviours and responses throughout the play, show her development from innocence and naivety through to full maturity as the play reaches its tragic conclusion.

Drought Causes, Types, and Resources
Drought Causes, Types, and Resources Its been a while since youve seenà a chance of rain in your forecast... could your city be in danger of a drought?à Youll be glad to know that although a lack of rain or snow over a period of several days, or even a week, is unusual, it doesnt necessarily mean youre headed for a drought. Droughts are periods (typically several weeks or longer) of abnormally dry andà precipitation-less weather. How dry depends on the amount of precipitation thats normal for a locations climate. A common misconception of droughts is that theyre brought on by periods of no rain or snow. While this certainly can initiate drought conditions, oftentimes the onset of a drought is less noticeable. If youre seeing rain or snow, but are seeing it in lighter amounts a drizzle here and flurries there, rather than steady rain or snow showers this can also signal a drought in-the-making. Of course, you wont be able to determine this as a cause for weeks, months, or even years into the future. Thats because, unlike other forms of severe weather andà natural disasters,à droughts develop slowly from a build-up of small changes in precipitation patterns, rather than from one single event. Atmospheric conditions such as climate change, ocean temperatures, changes in the jet stream, and changes in the local landscape are all culprits in the long story of the causes of droughts. How Droughts Hurt Droughts are some of the most costly economic stressors.à Frequently, droughts areà billion dollar weather eventsà and are one of the top three threats to population in the world (along with famine and flooding). There are three main ways droughts impact lives and communities: Farmers are often the first to feel the stresses from drought, and feel them hardest. The economic impacts of drought include losses in the timber, agricultural, and fisheries communities. Many of these losses are then passed on to consumers in the form of higher food prices. In less developed countries, once crops fail, famine can become a major problem.à Social impacts include increased chance of conflict over commodities, fertile land, and water resources. Other social impacts include abandonment of cultural traditions, loss of homelands, changes in lifestyle, and increased chance of health risks due to poverty and hygiene issues. The environmental impacts of drought include loss in species biodiversity, migration changes, reduced air quality, and increased soil erosion. Types of Droughts While droughts can be defined in many ways, three main drought types are commonly discussed: Hydrological Drought.à Many watersheds experience depleted amounts of available water. Lack of water in river systems and reservoirs can impact hydroelectric power companies, farmers, wildlife, and communities. Meteorological Drought.à A lack of precipitation is the most common definition of drought and is usually the type of drought referred to in news reports and the media. Most locations around the world have their own meteorological definition of drought based on the climate normals in the area. A normally rainy area that gets less rain than usual can be considered in a drought. Agricultural Drought.à When soil moisture becomes a problem, the agricultural industry is in trouble with drought.à Shortages in precipitation, changes in evapo-transpiration, and reduced ground water levels can create stress and problems for crops.ââ¬â¹ US Droughts While droughts dont often cause deaths in the United States, theà Dust Bowlà in the U.S. Midwest is one example of the devastation that can occur.à Other parts of the world experience long periods without rains as well. Even duringà monsoon season, areas (such as Africa and India) that depend on seasonal rains will often experience drought if the monsoon rains fail.à Preventing, Predicting, and Preparing for Droughts Want to know how drought is affecting your neighborhood right now?
